NATIONAL Award Category Definitions

Solo Awards

bullet Solo National Champions in each age category

bullet Solo National Champions - Winner gets trophy/tiara/lapel pin/re-dance by spotlight/National Champion Jacket/Senior Champion receives a scholarship

bullet Solo National Finalists - 2nd, 3rd and 4th place trophies for each age category/division; more places may be awarded dependent on total number of entries within each category

Duet Awards

bullet Duet National Champions in each age category

bullet Duet National Champions - BOTH dancers receive a trophy and lapel pins and National Champion Jacket

bullet Duet National Finalists - 2nd, 3rd and 4th place trophies and lapel pins for BOTH dancers; more places may be awarded dependent on total number of entries within each category

Ensemble Awards

bullet Ensemble National Champions in each age category and routine type

bullet Ensemble National Champions – Winners receive trophy and National Champion Jacket

bullet 2nd, 3rd and 4th place Ensemble Routine - One per age category and routine type; more places may be awarded dependent on total number of entries within each category. Winners receive a trophy

Officer Awards*

bullet Officer National Champions in each age category and team type/division based on top three highest scoring routines

bullet Officer National Champions – Winners receive trophy, banner and National Champion Jacket

bullet National Championship Officer “Best of the Best” Award - Awarded to the top three Officer groups in each age category and routine type with the highest scores overall on their three highest scoring routines brought to the competition. More places may be awarded dependent on total number of entries within each category. Winners will receive a trophy

bullet Outstanding Technique, Showmanship & Choreography Awards – Awarded to the officers in each age category earning the highest technique, showmanship and choreography scores. Winners will receive a trophy

Team Awards*

bullet Team National Champions in each age category, team type and team size (for public school teams)

bullet Team National Champions – Winning Director is awarded a National Champion Jacket; winning Team Members receive National Champion Jackets, trophy and banner

bullet National Championship Team “Best of the Best” Award - Awarded to the top three teams in each age category and routine type with the highest scores overall on their three highest scoring routines brought to the competition. More places may be awarded dependent on total number of entries within each category. Winners will receive a trophy

bullet Outstanding Technique, Showmanship & Choreography Awards – Awarded to the teams in each age category earning the highest technique, showmanship and choreography scores. Winners will receive a trophy

*Must enter a minimum of 3 routines in order to be eligible for National Champion Jacket Awards. For officers and teams entering 4 or more routines/categories, only the highest 3 scoring routines will be used for National Championship score tallying purposes.

Solo Awards

Officer Awards

bullet 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Officer Routine - One per age category and per type of routine

Ensemble & Team Awards

bullet Prominent Team Awards - Teams must score an average of 90 or above on a team routine in order to win

bullet Distinguished Team Awards - Teams must score an average of 80 or above on a team routine in order to win

bullet Judge's Awards - One or more in each of the following categories:
  • Choreography
  • Showmanship
  • Precision
  • Technique
  • Overall
bullet 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Team and Ensemble Routine - One per age category, per division and per type of routine

Crowd Appeal Award - Indicated by the routine that generates the greatest amount of positive crowd response

jon Fisher "Spirit of Excellence" Award - Awarded to the team that exhibits excellence in the areas of dance that are most important in the eyes of Mr. jon Fisher -- Showmanship, Choreography and Precision -- score sheets will determine winner.

Prestige Award - Awarded to the team that takes the highest scores overall on all routines brought to the competition for the day - The highest award a team can win!
