Performance Dates are tentatively scheduled for 3 performances November 30th 7pm and December 1st 7pm and 2pm.
We will confirm the dates once we receive confirmation from the theatre.
There is a mandatory choreography week for select roles held August 27-30th 2018 in the evenings at Children’s Dance Theater. Rehearsals are held Friday evenings and Saturdays September -November at Children’s Dance Theater and November & Decembers take place at Prestige Dance Studio. Dancers are expected to make these rehearsals a top priority. While we can work with a few absences, it is very important to have good attendance. Please AVOID missing any rehearsal but November rehearsals are extremely important for a smooth tech week. (this will mean dancers are not at the theatre late into the night) If you cannot avoid an absence please let us know as soon as possible. Make sure that any planned vacations are listed on your audition form.
Dancers must wear dance attire and have ballet buns for rehearsal. Dance warm ups, skirts and etc are allowed. Please bring appropriate shoes to rehearsals. If your dancer has multiple rehearsals don’t forget to bring water and snacks
Below is the outline of the overall rehearsal schedule for your families planning purposes. Individual routine times will be announced no later than September 1st. All participants need to download and use Team App. This is a free app and works with both android and apple products. This is the primary mode of communication for Nutcracker participants. It has many wonderful features like push notifications, reminders and calendar addition tools. You are also encouraged to join our closed facebook group. This will have videos uploaded for at home practice purposes.

The following tutorials are great ways to learn about the required hair and make-up needs for standard stage make up. This is required make up for dancer’s level 3 and up for the Nutcracker. Younger dancers are encouraged to use the second option. You are NOT required to purchase the kits from JAM Cosmetics
For our June recital families are encouraged to use these make up tutorials as well. The Creative Ballet &Tap and Kinderkid classes are encouraged to use a light version of the younger make up also. While we understand it feels like a lot of make-up please keep in mind this is for the stage purposes only. Feel free to speak with your instructor if you have concerns. We definitely want your younger dancer to look young on stage.

Every successful show has numerous volunteers, our performances are no exception.
We have many committee positions during the rehearsal process such as helping with sets, costumes, posters, programs, tickets, stage manager and crew. There are also some adult performing roles in the party scene that we need volunteers for. Previous dance experience isn’t necessary, just a willingness to have fun!
At the performance, our volunteer opportunities include back stage helpers will be responsible for entertaining kids with coloring pages, soothing fears, helping to line up dancers in order for performance, potty runs, and helping with costume changes as necessary, hand out recital photos to parents at pick up time, oversee pick up time after the show is over. Most importantly they are positive with all the kids. We encourage volunteers to sign up with their own child’s class so that you can watch your dancer perform from the wings (the side of the stage.)
Lobby jobs include handing out programs, and helping oversee and take money for the Mara Cookie sales and the Next Step Booster Club flower fundraiser.
We use sign up genius to organize all of our helpers.
Thanks in Advance for your help!
Each Nutcracker participants pays a monthly participation fee and this covers your performance costume rental. Our studio provides the costume, hair piece and any other necessary accessory. These items are check out to you at the beginning of September. Our dedicated costume committee is responsible for any alterations that may be necessary. When the show is finished, we simply ask that you clean your child’s costume and hair piece per our guidelines before returning it. That way it is fresh and in good condition for next year. Any costumes not returned within 30 days of the show closing is subject to a replacement charge.
Dancers are responsible for providing their own tights and dance shoes. Some roles have specific shoes requirements.

For the Nutcracker
Studio rehearsals:There is one mandatory choreography week for select roles. This year it is August 27-30th in the evenings. Times TBA. The bulk of the rehearsals for our Nutcracker production take place on Friday evenings and Saturday days September – December. The second to last Saturday rehearsal is in costume rehearsal. The final Saturday rehearsal is a full costume, hair and make-up with as much of the sets and props as possible. Dancers are encouraged to arrive with hair and make-up complete and 15-30 minutes early to get settled in the “dressing” room. These allows the director, assistants and crew to see any discrepancy’s in costumes, make up and practice much of the set changes. This eliminates problems that can become time consuming during our in theatre rehearsals
Tech week at the theatre:The Nutcracker production has many more theatrical elements then our June Performance there for we require dancers to attend 3 rehearsal at the theatre the week of the performances. The dates fluctuate depending on theatre availability however we traditionally hold Act 1 Tech rehearsals on the Tuesday before the performances. Followed by Act 2 that Wednesday. Thursday is the final Dress rehearsal. Tech rehearsals (Tuesday & Wednesday) require costumes and hair in buns, but make up and perfect hair is not required. The Dress rehearsal should run just like a performance so hair and make up is required. One parent is welcome to watch the dress rehearsal. If you wish to video tape and take your own photos please do it at dress rehearsal NOT the performances. We also often invited a special group of guests as a “sneak peak” to the dress rehearsal. This group is chosen by the director. Nutcracker is performed in the city of Fife, at the Columbia Jr High Performing Arts Center
